About Us

Gear Tested HQ is an independent product-testing and buying-guide site. Our job is simple: research real gear, explain what it is actually like to own, and point you to the best place to buy it.

We are generalists by design. The same approach that works for a kitchen appliance - read the published specifications, compare real-world tradeoffs, and tell you who should buy it - works for hiking gear, travel bags, tech, and the rest of the categories we cover.

How we choose what to recommend

We start with published specifications and manufacturer documentation, then layer in long-term ownership reports, professional reviews, and reader feedback. We do not invent hands-on test results, and we tell you when a claim is based on published specifications rather than our own testing.

How we make money

We use affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission when you buy through them - at no extra cost to you. It never changes our recommendations, and we say so clearly on every page where it applies. Read our Affiliate Disclosure for the full details.
